Hard work

By Geoff Serpell

Some people believe that an important goal in life is to avoid hard work.
Honest labour is essential in our democratic economy for physical and spiritual reasons

A friend once noted that two farms opposite each other along a road looked so different.
On one side, the crop was plentiful, while on the other side it was dismal.
Rain fell on both farms and otherwise the sun shone equally on both.
Looking closer, my friend noticed at the prosperous farm that the farmer was very busy in his field frequently, sowing seed, cultivating, fertilising, and later cropping the harvest.
On the other side of the road, the farmer was rarely seen, being laidback and casual with his efforts.
A young local lad picked up on this contrasting scenario and later used the illustration to guide his life, that is to work hard in the correct season to be successful and get the right outcome.

Reflection
Rest rightfully comes after putting in our best efforts and work is a great antidote to combat worry. If we lack aptitude, we can make up for it by working a little harder.
The love of work means a way to be successful in life.
